Ski Trip to Wisp
Wisp turned out to be Tiffany’s débutante ski adventure after hitting the slopes at Liberty. Jeff & Carla invited us to their family’s cabin in western Maryland. The crew: Jeff & Carla, Mark & Lindsay, Steve & Tricia, Tiffany and me.
Sideling Hill
We’d been on the road for about an hour when the phone rang. It was Lindsay. Their car broke down on the upper slope of what turned out to be one of my favorite parts of Maryland: Sideling Hill. Half an hour later, we pulled up behind them. Steve and Tricia were already there. Another half hour, a tow truck took away their car, their gear was split between the two cars and they piled into our car with the pugs.
Tattoos
Last year at Camelback, Steve and I got foil tats that we picked up from a vending machine in K-Mart. So this year, when we saw Spongebob tats, well, we had to get them. Each set had three – one large and two smaller. Four sets, four couples. Everyone got cut. And they glow in the dark!
Ski Time
We hit the slopes at opening and skied. There were three skill levels – as such, we started together and easy and then the group pealed off to more challenging terrain.
Team Green: Tricia and Tiffany mastered every green circle run on the mountain, including Wisp, which had a 100-yard segment that was very challenging (easily blue).
Team Blue: Jeff and Carla were more advanced and able to conquer the blue squares with ease.
Team Black: Mark, Lindsay, Steve and I eventually found ourselves looking for more challenging slopes. We had a blast on Main Street and exploring the East Ridge.
Teams Green and Blue called it quits around 4 pm. Team Black stayed until 6. At first, we all rode the lifts together, but as the day wore on, the crowds intensified and the lift-lines grew. So we started filing up in the singles line to get to the top of the mountain sooner. By the time we left, the night-skiing lights were on and we could load on the lift as soon as we got to the bottom; no more lines.
Cabin Fever
When we got back, we had a hot tub and chili waiting for us before we caught the Ravens-Colts game. Eight people, four dogs, and a great time.
[...] here. And they’re the legit blue squares too (they’d be black diamonds at Liberty, Wisp or Camelback)! The black diamonds still aren’t up to par with the Rockies (they’re [...]
