Date Night

So, at least once a week Tiffany and I have “date night.” We’re both busy, so for us to be able to both carve out an evening to spend with each other is a rather monumental task. But we do it because it’s our favorite night of the week.

Date night is usually pretty standard: dinner and a movie. Laurel has a plethora of good eateries: Olive Garden is Tiffany’s favorite, and I think my new favorite may be Silver Diner. For diversity, though, there’s also a TGI Fridays, Chili’s, Red Lobster, Bennigans, Lone Star, Outback Steakhouse, Don Pablo’s, Denny’s, Ruby Tuesday, Hooters (we never get to go there…) and probably a few more that I forgot. They’re all on a one-mile stretch of road we like to call Restaurant Row.

Anyway, we haven’t been going to movies at the theatre because it’s too expensive and Hollywood hasn’t made a good movie since Return of the King. We have a NetFlix account, and usually our date movie is a movie from there which we watch on our huge TV with surround sound (I’ll post more on that at a later time).

And lately, we’ve been saving even more money by eating in, which means that we’ve been cooking. It started simple enough with Spaghetti and garlic bread (we are very systematic: Tiffany pre-heats the oven while I wait for the water to boil. When the water boils, Tiffany puts the bread in the oven, and I put the noodles in the pan and start to cook the hamburger. When we time it like this, everything – sauce, noodles, bread – is done at the same time). But we’re starting to upgrade.

Now, anyone who knows me knows that I swear by Chili and Cheese. I think you can put Chili and Cheese on just about anything and it will be delicious. Remember my favorite lunch ever?

Well, I must be getting old, ’cause we’re learning to be all sophisticated:

Tiffany made some delicious lemon chicken and rice. I cooked the asparigus (I was disappointed ’cause it didn’t turn my pee neon-yellow) for the first time (and did a damn good job, if I may say so). And we feasted.

It’s fun to cook together, and we’re not bad.

So, as Jed said, things have slowed down a bit in the planning realm as thing get more busy in our lives. Now that our place is set, we have had more time to focus on other aspects of our lives, such as school for me and work for him. Although, to tell the truth, the thing I like to focus on most is just being able to spend time with Jed. Awww… puke. I know. Anyway, being the party animals that we Hopkins students are, we recently had our Halloween Masquerade ball. It was a good time and my friends and I helped plan it. Its pretty much a big costume party in this mansion in Baltimore with a dance floor, a D.J., all you can eat hor’devors and all you can drink all night. So, the weeks leading up to the event, oh, who am I kidding, the months leading up to the event, Jed and I pondered what our costumes were going to be. Since we have been together, we have never had a Halloween together, either due to a debate tournament or campaign elections or something, so we were pretty excited about this one. We both wanted to go as something rather original, but something we could make ourselves and be creative. So we thought, and just to give you a sample of our thought process, here are a few of the ideas that were thrown around over the weeks..

Jed: Frylock and Shake(from Aqua Teen hunger force), Ketchup and Mustard, Axl and Slash (of course),
Tiffany: Roy and the White tiger (complete with neck wound and bloody mouth for the tiger), Zack and Kelly from saved by the bell, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (we would both be wearing shirts that said “I screwed Jennifer” and each be carring one or two multi-cultural babies),and the costumes we ultimately chose….

Buttercup and Wesley of “The Princess Bride”.

It took us quite a while to agree on this one, but in the end, I think we pulled it off rather nicely. Jed even grew a moustache (it took like three weeks, and even then… ha ha, I love you honey, but not for your super amazing ability to grow facial hair… ) The only disappointing part of the evening is the number of people who didn’t know who we were. We mostly got “Zorro and Juliet?”. Um, no. Maybe it was just me, and what we were was obvious to me because I knew what to look for, but I thought my classmates were so much cooler than that. Turns out a good number had never even seen the movie. Shame, really. They were such nice kids. Anyway, here are pictures of our awesome costumes. We didn’t take many pictures because I didn’t want to carry around the camera all night, but we took a few. So let us know what you think! Buttercup and Wesley or Juliet and Zorro? :)

Just Tweezing…

So, someone at work suggested that I tweez my eyebrows. I’ve never done that. So the question is…

Update!

Yeah, it’s been a long time posting, as many of you have observed. That’s my fault. And Tiffany’s – although she tried to post for Halloween but had a computer glitch. Hopefully she’ll post again, so you can see me with my mustache. It’s quite impressive.

Wedding planning has slowed down – at least from my angle – as other things have gotten busy. We should probably get to work on the guest list; gathering addresses etc. to send the Save the Date. And we should probably start working on the Honeymoon reservations. I think we decided on Saint Lucia.

Oh, and let me brag a bit.

Remember that party that we took Vanessa to up in Hopkins land? Well, at that party, a third-year med student warned Tiffany about a group of 3 tests that she was going to have to take in two weeks time. The tests, he said, were the most difficult of the med student experience.

Of course, such omnimous news kicked poor Tiffany into stress mode two full weeks before the tests happened. The weekend before the tests, I was in Colorado (my grandma died, by the way, and I was at the funeral), and USC played Notre Dame. That Monday, she took her tests, and I was not allowed to ask her about them because she was (as usual) convince that she failed.

She has since gotten her grades back. There were three tests.
