Fun Facts with Tiffany #2

So this one is not nearly as cool as the last one… (I think that Hopkins just gave us a taste of the cool professors before they hit us with the more drone ones.) But this is a good one for all you health fanatics out there:

Be careful of what “all organic/natural” suppliments you take. Not all, in fact most, are not harmless at all. Since the FDA is no longer allowed to regulate “diet suppliments” (1994 Dietary supplement health and education act), which is just about everything you’ll find at trader joes for example, there is no way to prove its safety, toxicity, or effectiveness. In fact, there have been many cases where these “natural supplements” caused deaths because noone knew what was in them (see St. Johns wort and cyclosporin) or PC SPES. Here are some of the more common herbal supplements that have been proven to be no more effective than placebo (a sugar pill): Echinacea and Ginko Biloba do nothing more for you than what your mind can do for itself!

So when taking these supplements, be aware and get all the information available to you. It just might save your life.

Anatomy of a Proposal: Part 6 – Marry Me?

They say a picture is worth 1000 words, so I wonder how many a movie is worth…

To see how we got here:

Download the video here:

Right-click on the image, select “Save Target As…” and save it to your computer

The file is about 17Mb, so it may take awhile, especially if you’re using dial-up.

Attention all Orange County brides…

Does anyone have recommendations for fabulous wedding photographers that they have heard of/used? I’m getting married in Huntington Beach, and having a great photographer is really important to me. Any suggestions?

Our humble abode

So here are some of the first pictures of our apartment. I’m not sure if we have fully explained how dramatically different our apartment is now from the ones that we each lived in before. Let me give you a little slice, so that you may appreciate our apartment, like we appreciate our apartment.

Tiffany’s apartment: In Charles Village in Baltimore. It was about 425 square feet and contained a bathroom, thin hallway, small kitchen, and tiny bedroom, which housed my bookshelf, desk, queen size bed, foot bench, and two ikea dressers. Needless to say, I had what I call a “sheeps path” that I could walk through beause there was so much stuff. It was clean and my landlord was cool, but man was it small. Oh, and last year, there were 5 murders within a three block radius of where I lived.

Jed’s apartment: In Takoma Park, Maryland. Aside from saying it was a basement apartment that had a consistent smell of wet hampster, I’m just going to show you pictures of a few of his “roommates”….

Anatomy of a Proposal: Part 5 – Count Down

Ten – Tell Mom. Mom’s always known that Hanging Lake was the place it was going to happen (leading to lots of “are you going to take her up to Hanging Lake?” nagging). So I needed to tell her that it was actually going to happen this trip. Here’s the email I sent her:

New Couch

Got our couch yesterday. It’s so nice! It reclines, too. The matching love-seat is on the way. Pics will follow when our living room is good to go.

We also have had to rethink where we’re going to put some things and how the room will be laid out. Ultimately, I think the new layout is much better, but I’m going to have to learn how to run cable under carpet. Before, I’ve just used those neat little nail-hook things that let you put the cable in the crease between the wall and the ground.

Honeymoon Options

So we’re trying to pick our Honeymoon Spot. Here’s what we’ve got so far. Any input from experience? Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Anguilla – Maybe too relaxing, not enough to do? Jed: “eh”, Tiffany: “sounds very relaxing”

Saint Lucia – Sounds pretty good. Lots to see, but relazing too. There’s a Sandals, too. Jed: “sweet”. Tiffany: “not bad”

US Virgin Islands – Saint Thomas, Saint Johns, Saint Croix. We’ve been lobbied by Chris and Kathleen pretty hard on this one. Problem is, it might be too well traveled and Jed’s family might be going sometime soon. We want a place of our own. Jed: “sounds great, maybe not for this” Tiffany: “sounds nice, but if we’re going to go there again…”

British Virgin Islands – BVI sounds less commercialized, quieter. That’s a plus. Jed: interested “hmm” Tiffany: “like to know more…”

Turks & Caicos: beautiful beaches! Jed: “looks pretty” Tiffany: “Sounds pretty good!”

Antigua – Wow. Small. You can see individual trees in the satellite image of the whole island. Jed: “Small!” Tiffany: “Why are you posting one’s we’re not even thinking about?”

Cayman Islands – Heck, if we don’t like the island, we can always launder some money… Tiffany’s a bit scared of the sting rays. Jed didn’t like The Firm. Jed: “We’ll see” Tiffany: “Sounds pretty, but sting rays might be a deal breaker”

Bridesmaid’s dresses

So here it is! My bridesmaid’s dress! It took a while, but after much thought and reflection on other’s opinions as well as my own… The winner is … dress 1! So, I finally decided after seeing one of my other bridesmaids, Alice, in the dresses. Of course, it still wasnt an easy decision as she too, being gorgeous, looked killer in both dresses. However, I liked the straight dress just a little bit more than the other one. I’m happy with the dress. It’s a dress that I would wear myself…. may wear myself… Man. I want one. They’re so cute! I know, I guess my dress is alright too. :)

This whole dress thing has been a sort of good news/bad news adventure. So first, good news: I finally pick my dress and my ‘maid Alice buys it and all is well in the land. Then bad news: The David’s Bridal lady tells me that they are “phasing out” the dress that I chose for some new ones coming in for the fall season. Phasing out in the next few weeks. Good news: This means that the dresses are all marked significantly down from their original prices. Bad news: this means that my bridesmaids are going to have to get their dresses in the next few weeks. So, I’m feeling pretty ass right about now, so I call my girls to tell them the news. Turns out every single one is more than cool about it. In fact, they were awesome. I know that this will not be my only snag in the marital planning process, but I am so reassured that I can handle whatever may come. I can handle it because I know that I have five amazing women who will be there to have my back. Man, I am a lucky girl. I get to marry the man of my dreams, and I get to do it with five women who are not only beautiful and wicked smart, but also off the charts awesome. I’m psyched. Come what may. Bring it on. Ladies, thank you. Really. Thank you.
